Required materials and tools:
* LED strip (white, red or blue)
* Wires (black, red and blue or yellow)
* Soldering iron and solder
* Heat shrink
* Electrical tape
* Glue (glass or heat resistant)
* Phillips screwdriver
Procedure:
1. Removing the gear shift lever:
* Move the gear shift lever to the “P” position and remove the ignition key.
* Remove the leather cover of the gear lever.
*Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws holding the top of the arm in place.
* Gently lift up the top of the gear lever.
2. Removing the lever handle:
* Flip the top of the lever over and press down on the plastic stopper holding the handle in place.
* Remove the gear shift knob.
3. Disconnecting wires:
* Disconnect all electrical wires connected to the bottom of the gear shift lever.
4. Installation of LED strip:
* Cut the required length of LED strip and solder it to the wires:
* Black wire: ground (GND)
* Red wire: “positive” (+)
* Blue (+ yellow) wire: “mute” (DIM)
* Install the LED strip around the base of the gear lever using glue. Make sure it will not interfere with the operation of the lever.
5. Connecting wires:
*Connect the red wire of the LED strip to the +12V wire (usually red or yellow) of the vehicle’s wiring harness.
* Connect the black wire of the LED strip to the ground (GND) wire of the wiring harness.
*Connect the blue or yellow LED strip wire to the dimming (DIM) wire of the wiring harness (if equipped). This wire controls the brightness of the LED strip.
6. Insulation and assembly:
* Insulate all connections with heat shrink or electrical tape.
* Assemble the handle and upper part of the gear shift lever.
* Reinstall the gear shift lever and tighten the screws.
* Install the leather shift lever cover.
7. Connection to power supply:
*Connect the car battery.
* The LED strip should now light up when the ignition key is turned to the “ACC” or “ON” position.
Notes:
* It is recommended to use low power consumption LED strip to avoid draining the battery.
*Some Corolla 110 models may not have a mute wire. In this case, the LED strip will glow constantly.
*If you do not have experience working with electronics, it is recommended that you seek help from a qualified electrician.
