Correct operation of an automatic transmission (AT):
Before launch:
*Always place the shift lever in the “P” (Park) or “N” (Neutral) position.
* Make sure the brake pedal is depressed.
Warm up:
* Allow the transmission to warm up, especially in cold weather.
* Do not change gears until the engine reaches operating temperature.
* Avoid sudden acceleration or towing until the vehicle is fully warmed up.
Gear shift:
* Shift gears smoothly and slowly.
* Do not jump through gears (for example, do not shift from “D” to “L” without going through intermediate gears).
* Avoid “rocking” the vehicle (shifting gears back and forth to accelerate or shifting from “D” to “N” when coasting).
* When shifting into “R” (reverse), the vehicle must be completely stopped.
Parking mode:
*Always shift the gearshift lever to the “P” position before leaving the vehicle.
* Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface and the handbrake is engaged before removing the ignition key.
Towing:
*Cars with automatic transmissions are generally not designed for towing. Consult the instruction manual.
*If towing is necessary, use a special platform or hitch and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Maintenance:
* Check the automatic transmission fluid level regularly and change it in accordance with the service schedule.
* Change automatic transmission filters within the prescribed period.
* Flush the automatic transmission fluid cooling system.
* Carry out automatic transmission diagnostics and repairs only in qualified car repair shops.
Other tips:
* Avoid starting with sudden acceleration or wheel spin.
* Do not keep your foot on the brake pedal while driving.
* Inspect and maintain the transmission according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Be alert for any unusual sounds, vibrations, or slippage and contact your dealer immediately for diagnosis and repair.
