To engage reverse in a vehicle with an automatic transmission, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the vehicle is not moving: Stop the vehicle and place it in Park (P).
2. Move the gearshift lever: Locate the gearshift lever on the center console. Move it to the ‘R’ (Reverse) position.
3. Look in the mirrors: Make sure there are no obstacles behind you and that the path is clear.
4. Depress the brake pedal: Keep the brake pedal pressed to prevent the vehicle from moving.
5. Release the parking brake: If the parking brake is engaged, release it.
