Instructions for driving in reverse on an automatic transmission vehicle:
1. Stop the car and set the parking brake. This will keep the vehicle stationary while you shift the transmission into reverse.
2. Press the brake pedal. This is necessary to move the transmission from Park (P) to Reverse (R).
3. Move the gear shift lever to the Reverse (R) position. It is usually located in the upper right corner.
4. Remove the parking brake.
5. Release the brake pedal and gently press the gas pedal. The car will start moving backwards.
6. Use your rearview mirrors and rearview camera (if equipped) to monitor the situation behind your vehicle.
7. Be careful when backing up, especially in confined spaces.
8. To return to Park (P), first stop the vehicle, depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to Park (P).

* Only move the gearshift lever when the vehicle is at rest.
