Tools and materials:
* New transmission oil Honda CVT Fluid 2
*Original oil filter for CVT
* CVT oil pan gasket
* Funnel
* 8 mm hex key
* 10 mm socket wrench
* Oil collection pan
* Rags or paper towels
Procedure for changing the oil in an automatic transmission Honda Civic 2008:
1. Warm up the engine:
* Start the engine and let it idle for 5-10 minutes to warm up the transmission oil.
2. Prepare the car:
* Place the car on a level surface.
* Turn off the engine and set the parking brake.
* Raise the car on a lift or using jacks.
3. Remove the CVT pan:
*Locate the CVT pan under the vehicle.
* Loosen the pan bolts with an 8mm hex key.
* Be careful as oil may leak from the pan.
* Carefully remove the tray.
4. Replace the oil filter:
*Locate the CVT oil filter located in the right corner of the pan.
* Remove the old oil filter by turning it counterclockwise.
* Apply some new transmission oil to the O-ring of the new filter.
* Screw in the new filter by hand and then tighten it with a 10 mm socket wrench to 18 Nm.
5. Replace the pan gasket:
* Remove the old pan gasket.
* Install a new gasket.
6. Install the CVT pan:
* Reinstall the CVT pan.
* Tighten the pan bolts with an 8 mm hex wrench to 10 Nm.
7. Fill with new oil:
*Insert a funnel into the CVT oil fill hole.
* Fill in the required amount of new transmission oil (about 3.5 liters).
* Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The level should be between the HOT and COLD marks.
8. Reset the CVT oil aging counter:
* Start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes.
* Shift the gear selector to all positions and hold them in each position for a few seconds.
* Turn off the engine and wait 30 seconds.
* Restart the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes.
* Turn off the engine. The CVT oil aging counter has been reset to zero.
9. Check the oil level:
* Wait a few minutes for the oil to drain into the pan.
* Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.
* Insert the dipstick back and check the oil level. Add oil if necessary.
10. Place the car on wheels:
* Lower the vehicle onto the wheels and tighten the wheel nuts.
Notes:
* Use only genuine Honda CVT Fluid 2 oil.
* Do not overfill the gearbox with oil.
* Check the transmission oil level regularly and add it if necessary.
* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission oil every 150,000 km or every 3 years, whichever comes first.
