Possible reasons for the Opel Vectra B automatic transmission to go into emergency mode:

Hydraulic problems:

* Low or poor quality transmission fluid (ATF)
* Clogged automatic transmission filter
* Faulty oil pump or solenoids

Electronics problems:

* Faulty transmission speed sensor
* Faulty ATF temperature or pressure sensors
* Problems with wiring or automatic transmission ECU

Mechanical faults:

* Wear or damage to clutches, drums and belts
*Slipping or broken planetary gears

Actions when the automatic transmission goes into emergency mode:

1. Stop the car and park it safely.

3. Check the tightness and condition of the battery terminals.
4. Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes.
5. Start the engine and switch the automatic transmission selector to ‘P’ (parking) mode.
6. Press and hold the brake pedal.
7. Switch the automatic transmission selector from ‘P’ mode through all positions and back to ‘P’.
8. Release the brake pedal.

If the emergency reset fails, contact a qualified mechanic to diagnose and repair the problem.
