Replacing an automatic transmission gasket on a Nissan Almera Classic
Tools and materials:
* Set of wrenches and sockets
* Screwdriver or ratchet
* Oil filter puller
* New automatic transmission gasket
* New automatic transmission oil (Dexron III or IV)
* Automatic transmission filter (optional)
Operating procedure:
1. Ensure safety. Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Drain the automatic transmission oil. Find the automatic transmission oil pan drain plug and loosen it. Drain the oil into a suitable container.
3. Remove the oil pan. Unscrew all the bolts securing the oil pan to the automatic transmission housing. Carefully separate the tray from the body.
4. Remove the old gasket. Remove the old gasket from the surface of the pan and the automatic transmission housing. Clean both surfaces of old gasket and oil residues.
5. Install a new gasket. Apply a small amount of automatic transmission sealant to the new gasket and install it on the surface of the automatic transmission housing.
6. Install the oil pan. Attach the oil pan to the transmission housing and tighten the bolts to the recommended torque.
7. Install a new automatic transmission filter (optional). If you decide to replace the automatic transmission filter, remove the filter cover and replace the old filter with a new one.
8. Fill the automatic transmission with new oil. Add the required amount of new automatic transmission oil to the gearbox through the filler plug.
9. Check the oil level. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check the automatic transmission oil level with a dipstick. Add oil if necessary.
10. Reset the service counter (optional). Some Almera Classic models have an automatic transmission service counter. Reset the counter by following the instructions in the owner’s manual.
Adviсe:
*Use a high quality transmission gasket and sealant recommended for Nissan vehicles.
*Tighten bolts to the correct torque to prevent gasket damage.
* Check the condition of the remaining automatic transmission gaskets and seals when replacing the pan gasket.
*If necessary, seek assistance from a qualified mechanic.
