Operating principle
The automatic transmission cooling system is designed to maintain the optimal operating temperature of the transmission fluid. When the transmission fluid heats up, the thermostat opens, allowing fluid to circulate through the transmission radiator. The radiator dissipates heat into the surrounding air, cooling the automatic transmission fluid. The cooled fluid returns to the automatic transmission, where it is circulated by the automatic transmission pump and filtered by the automatic transmission filter.
Automatic transmission radiator
The automatic transmission radiator is usually located in the front of the car, behind the engine radiator. It consists of thin tubes through which automatic transmission fluid flows and fins that dissipate heat.
Automatic transmission cooling lines
Automatic transmission cooling lines connect the automatic transmission radiator to the automatic transmission. They are made of flexible rubber or metal and are designed to transport automatic transmission fluid.
Automatic transmission thermostat
The automatic transmission thermostat regulates the temperature of the automatic transmission fluid. When the fluid heats up, the thermostat opens, allowing fluid to circulate through the automatic transmission radiator. As the fluid cools, the thermostat closes, restricting the flow of fluid through the radiator.
Automatic transmission pump
The automatic transmission pump circulates automatic transmission fluid through the system. It is powered by the engine and creates the pressure necessary to move fluid through the cooling lines, radiator, and other system components.
Automatic transmission filter
The automatic transmission filter removes dirt and debris from the automatic transmission fluid. This helps protect automatic transmission components from damage and ensures smooth operation of the system.
Automatic transmission cooling system maintenance
To maintain proper operation of the automatic transmission cooling system, it is important to perform regular maintenance:
*Checking the automatic transmission fluid level: Regularly check the automatic transmission fluid level using the dipstick. The fluid should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks.
* Changing the automatic transmission fluid: Change the automatic transmission fluid regularly in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. This will help remove contaminants and keep the fluid in good condition.
* Replacing the automatic transmission filter: Replace the automatic transmission filter regularly in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. This will help remove contaminants and keep the system clean.
* Inspecting and Cleaning the Transmission Cooler: Periodically inspect and clean the transmission cooler to remove debris or dirt that may restrict air flow and reduce cooling capacity.
