Methods for cooling the Hyundai Getz automatic transmission
1. Transmission fluid (ATF) maintenance
*Change transmission fluid regularly according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
*Use the correct type of fluid as specified in the user manual.
* Contaminated fluid reduces the automatic transmission’s ability to dissipate heat.
2. Cooling radiator
* The cooling radiator built into the automatic transmission removes heat from the transmission fluid.
* Make sure the radiator is clean and free of blockages.
* If necessary, flush the radiator or replace it.
3. Mud flaps
* Mud flaps around the transmission direct counter-flow of air to the cooling radiator.
* Make sure the mudguards are not damaged and are installed correctly.
4. Additional cooler
*For vehicles that are used extensively in off-road conditions or when towing heavy loads, an optional transmission fluid cooler can be installed.
* The auxiliary cooler increases the surface area for cooling and reduces fluid temperature.
5. Cooling fan
*Some Hyundai Getz models have a cooling fan that circulates air around the transmission.
* Make sure the fan is working and not blocked.
6. Avoid slipping
*Slippage creates excess heat in the transmission.
* Avoid sudden acceleration and stopping.
7. Towing
*Adhere to the maximum towing weight specified for your Hyundai Getz.
*Use proper towing equipment.
* Take breaks during long towing trips to allow the transmission to cool.
8. Other tips
* Use gear shift mode “D” during normal driving.
* Downshift when driving on steep grades or when towing.
* Check the transmission fluid level on a cold engine.
