Required tools and materials:

* New gear oil (the specific type depends on the model and year of manufacture of the Captiva)
* New oil pan gasket
* New oil filter
* Funnel
* 3/8″ hex key
* Drain plug key
* Clean rag or container to drain old oil

Instructions:

1. Prepare the car:

* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
* Turn off the engine and park the vehicle on a level surface.
* Securely secure the vehicle with the parking brake.

2. Find the oil pan:

* Look under the vehicle and locate the automatic transmission oil pan. This is a large metal plate located at the bottom of the transmission.

3. Drain the old oil:

* Place a clean rag or container under the oil pan.
*Use a drain plug wrench to carefully loosen the drain plug. Be careful as oil may spill out under pressure.
* Allow the old oil to drain completely.

4. Replace the oil pan gasket:

* Clean the surface of the oil pan and the gasket from old oil and dirt.
* Install a new gasket around the oil pan.

5. Tighten the drain plug:

* Screw the drain plug back into the pan and tighten it to 33 Nm.

6. Replace the oil filter:

*Locate the automatic transmission oil filter and unscrew it using a 3/8-inch hex wrench.
* Lubricate the new oil ring and install the new filter.
* Tighten the filter to 18 Nm.

7. Fill with new oil:

* Insert a funnel into the dipstick hole and fill with new transmission oil.
* Fill in oil until it begins to flow out of the dipstick hole.

8. Check the oil level:

* Return the funnel and close the dipstick hole.
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* One minute after turning off the engine, remove the dipstick, wipe it clean and put it back into the oil.
* Check the oil level: it should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick. Add oil if necessary.

9. Clean and remove:

* Wipe off any spilled oil from the engine and transmission.
* Dispose of old oil and oil filter according to local regulations.

Note:

*Exact torque values ​​and oil quantities may vary slightly depending on the model and year of your Captiva. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
* Regular transmission oil changes are critical to ensuring the longevity of your automatic transmission. It is recommended to change the oil every 50,000 km or according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
