Automatic transmission calibration after oil change
After changing the transmission fluid in an automatic transmission (AT), it is necessary to perform a calibration to ensure proper operation of the automatic transmission. Calibration includes adjusting the gear shift point and automatic transmission pressure.
Required materials:
* OBD-II diagnostic scanner
* Transmission fluid
Calibration procedure:
1. Setting the liquid level:
* Fill the automatic transmission with the appropriate amount of transmission fluid according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
* Check the fluid level on the automatic transmission dipstick with the engine running and the automatic transmission in neutral.
2. Preparing the scanner:
* Connect the diagnostic scanner to the vehicle’s OBD-II connector.
* Make sure your scanner software is up to date.
3. Clearing fault codes:
*Using a scan tool, clear any stored trouble codes in the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
4. Shift point calibration:
* Start the engine and allow it to warm up to operating temperature.
*Using a scanner, select the shift point calibration option from the TCM menu.
*Follow the instructions on the scanner screen to complete the calibration.
5. Automatic transmission pressure calibration:
*Using a scanner, select the A/T pressure calibration option from the TCM menu.
*Follow the instructions on the scanner screen to complete the calibration.
6. Adaptation of training:
* After calibrating the pressure in the automatic transmission, let the car drive for several kilometers so that the automatic transmission can adapt to the new fluid.
7. Functionality check:
* After driving, take the vehicle for a test drive to check that the gear shifts correctly and there are no fluid leaks.
*If any problems occur, contact a qualified mechanic.
Notes:
* Automatic transmission calibration may vary depending on the vehicle model and automatic transmission type.
*Always follow the instructions provided in your vehicle’s repair manual.
* Regular transmission fluid changes and automatic transmission calibration are important to extend the life of the automatic transmission and ensure its proper operation.
