Adjusting the automatic transmission shift cable

Required tools:

* Open-end wrench or socket wrench of suitable size
* Hex screwdriver or hex wrench

Adjustment procedure:

1. Find the cable

Locate the shift cable that connects the console shift selector to the transmission. It is usually located under the hood, attached to the transmission.

2. Identify the adjusting nut

Locate the adjusting nut on the end of the cable that connects it to the gear selector. This nut is usually hex or threaded.

3. Loosen the locking nut

Using an open-end or socket wrench, slightly loosen the locking nut holding the adjustment nut in place.

4. Adjust the cable

Using a hex screwdriver or hex wrench, turn the adjusting nut to lengthen or shorten the cable.

5. Tighten the locking nut

After adjusting the cable, tighten the locking nut to secure the adjusting nut in place.

6. Check adjustment

Move the gear selector to different positions (P, R, N, D, S, etc.) and make sure that the transmission shifts smoothly and without delay.

7. Retighten the locking nut

If gear shifts properly, retighten the locking nut with a wrench.

Adviсe:

* Make sure there is enough play in the cable to prevent excessive tension when the engine is running.
* Do not overtighten the adjusting nut as this may damage the cable or transmission.
