Audi A6 C5 automatic transmission adaptation using VCDS
Required equipment:
*VCDS cable (VAG-COM)
*Laptop or computer
Preparation:
1. Warm the engine and transmission to operating temperature.
2. Connect the VCDS cable to the vehicle diagnostic port.
3. Launch the VCDS program.
Adaptation procedure:
1. Select ‘Controllers’ and select ’01 – Motor’.
2. Click on ‘Measurements’ and select ‘Unit 08 – Adaptation’.
3. Enter ’00’ in the ‘Channel Number’ field and click ‘Read’.
4. The ‘Adaptation Value’ field will display the value of the current base adaptation. Write down this value.
5. Return to the ‘Measurements’ screen.
6. Enter ’98’ in the ‘Channel Number’ field and click ‘Read’.
7. Select the ‘Basic installation’ checkbox.
8. Click ‘Run’.
9. The adaptation process will begin. It may take several minutes.
10. Once the process is complete, click ‘OK’ and restart the engine.
Adaptation check:
1. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
2. Select ’02 – Transmission’ and select ‘Measurements’.
3. Select ‘Block 01 – Engine Speed 1’.
4. Make sure that the engine speed is stable and does not change significantly.
5. Select ‘Block 03 – Engine Speed 3’.
6. Make sure that the engine speed is stable and matches the engine speed on block 01.
Note:
* Automatic transmission adaptation may be required after replacing the automatic transmission control unit, solenoids or other transmission components.
* If the adaptation process is unsuccessful, check for automatic transmission errors and repeat the procedure.
