Automatic transmission oil temperature sensor A6MF1
The A6MF1 automatic transmission oil temperature sensor is designed to measure the temperature of the transmission fluid (ATF) and transmit information to the transmission control module (TCM). The TCM uses this data to regulate the ATF temperature and prevent overheating or underheating.
Location and identification
The oil temperature sensor is usually located in the oil pan or automatic transmission housing. On the A6MF1 automatic transmission, the sensor is located in the front part of the automatic transmission pan. It has a two-pin electrical connector.
Operating principle
The oil temperature sensor is a thermistor that changes its resistance depending on the temperature. As the ATF temperature rises, the sensor resistance decreases. Changes in sensor resistance are transmitted to the TCM, which interprets these changes and determines the ATF temperature.
Functions
The oil temperature sensor performs the following functions:
*Provides ATF temperature information to the TCM.
* Helps the TCM regulate ATF temperature by controlling fluid flow through the transmission cooler.
* Protects the automatic transmission from overheating or underheating.
Replacing the sensor
If the oil temperature sensor is faulty, it must be replaced. Here are the basic steps to replace the sensor:
1. Drain ATF from the automatic transmission.
2. Remove the automatic transmission pan.
3. Locate the oil temperature sensor and disconnect its electrical connector.
4. Remove the sensor from the automatic transmission using a wrench.
5. Screw the new sensor into the automatic transmission and tighten it.
6. Connect the electrical connector to the new sensor.
7. Install the automatic transmission pan and tighten the bolts.
8. Fill ATF into the automatic transmission and check the fluid level.
