Partial oil change in automatic transmission 6T40
Required materials:
* ATF Dexron VI oil (about 4-5 liters)
* New automatic transmission filter
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Sealant for automatic transmission pan
Tools:
* Hexagon set
* 10 and 13 mm wrenches or sockets
* Funnel
* Container for draining old oil
*Transmission flush device (optional)
Procedure:
1. Preparation
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and secure it with the parking brake.
* Warm up the engine to operating temperature and move the gear shift lever to all positions.
* Turn off the engine and let it cool.
2. Drain the old oil
* Unscrew the drain plug of the automatic transmission pan with a 13 mm hexagon.
* Unscrew the automatic transmission pan bolts with a 10 mm hexagon and remove the pan.
* Drain the old oil into a container.
* Remove and clean the automatic transmission filter.
3. Transmission flush (optional)
* If you want to flush the transmission, connect a flush device to the transmission coolant circuits and follow the device manufacturer’s instructions.
4. Replacing the filter and pan gasket
* Install a new automatic transmission filter.
* Install a new automatic transmission pan gasket.
* Apply sealant to the edge of the automatic transmission pan and install it in place.
* Tighten the automatic transmission pan bolts to the torque specified in the owner’s manual.
5. Filling with new oil
* Fill approximately 4-5 liters of fresh ATF Dexron VI oil through the dipstick tube or fill hole.
* Tighten the drain plug with a 13 mm hexagon.
6. Checking the oil level
* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Move the gearshift lever to all positions and return it back to the park position.
* Remove the oil level dipstick and check the level.
* If necessary, add oil to the “hot” mark.
7. Resetting the automatic transmission oil aging counter
*Connect the diagnostic scanner to the car.
* Find in the menu the item to reset the automatic transmission oil aging counter.
*Follow the instructions to reset the counter.
Notes:
* It is recommended to carry out a partial oil change in the 6T40 automatic transmission every 60,000 – 80,000 km or more often in severe operating conditions.
*Depending on the model and year of the vehicle, some steps of the procedure may differ. It is recommended to always refer to the vehicle’s owner’s manual.
