Numbers on the gear selector of automatic transmissions:

* P (Park): Parking. The gearbox is locked and the car is stationary.
* R (Reverse): Reverse
* N (Neutral): Neutral. The gearbox is not engaged with any gears.
* D (Drive): Forward movement. The car automatically shifts between gears for optimal fuel economy and performance.
*2: Limits gear shifting to the first two gears only. Used for uphill driving or towing.
*3: Limits gear shifting to the first three gears only. Used for driving on slippery surfaces or at reduced speeds.
* L (Low): Lowest gear. Used for driving on steep inclines or when towing heavy loads.
* S (Sport): Sports mode. Provides more aggressive shifting for better acceleration and dynamics.
* M (Manual): Manual mode. Allows the driver to manually select gears using the steering wheel paddles or selector.
