Gearbox modes

* P (park): Locks the transmission and is used when parking or during long periods of parking.
* R (reverse): Activates reverse gear.
* N (neutral): Neutral position, the transmission is not engaged. Used when towing or neutral driving.
* D (Drive): The primary driving mode for most situations. Automatically changes gears depending on speed and load.
*S (Sport): Provides sportier shifting characteristics by holding higher revs and shifting up earlier.
* L (Low): Used for steep grades or when towing.

How to use a Hyundai automatic transmission

Starting the car

1. Start the engine.
2. While holding the brake pedal with your foot, move the gear selector to position P.
3. Release the brake pedal.

Shifting gears

* To switch to D (Drive) mode, release the brake pedal and press the gas pedal. The car will start moving.
* To switch to R (reverse) mode, stop the vehicle while holding the brake pedal. Then move the selector to position R.
* To switch to N (neutral) mode, hold the vehicle with the brake pedal and move the selector lever to the N position.
* To switch to S or L modes, press the mode button, which is usually located next to the gear selector.

Car parking

1. Stop the car and hold it with the brake pedal.
2. Move the gear selector to position P.
3. Pull the handbrake.
4. Turn off the engine.

Tips for using an automatic transmission

*Always shift the transmission to P mode when the vehicle is parked.
*Do not switch to R or D mode while the vehicle is moving.
* Use S mode for faster gear changes or for overtaking.
* Use L mode for driving on steep hills or when towing.
* When driving at very low speeds, such as in traffic jams, switch to D or L mode to prevent excessive gear changes.
* Do not put the vehicle in P mode while driving as this may damage the transmission.
