Audi automatic transmission multi-position switch

The Audi automatic transmission multi-position switch allows the driver to change gears using a single lever. It has the following provisions:

P (Park): Locks the transmission when the vehicle is parked.

R (reverse): engages reverse.

N (Neutral): Disengages the transmission, allowing the vehicle to roll freely.

D (Drive): Main gear for automatic shifting.

S (Sport): A sport shift mode that provides sharper acceleration and delays upshifts.

M (Manual): Allows the driver to manually change gears using the steering wheel paddles or the gear lever itself (depending on model).

+ (upshift): Used to shift to a higher gear in manual mode.

— (downshift): Used to shift to a lower gear in manual mode.

Other features:

* Tiptronic: allows the driver to change gears manually without moving the shifter to «M» mode.
* Overdrive (O/D): A button on the shifter that turns overdrive (highest gear) on or off.
* Sport Mode (S): A button on the steering wheel that activates the sport mode.
* Steering wheel paddle shifters: Allow the driver to change gears without taking their hands off the wheel.

Note: The location and function of the Audi automatic transmission multi-position switch may vary depending on the model and year of manufacture of the vehicle.
