Adjusting the brake band of Hyundai automatic transmission

Required tools and materials:

* Wrench set
* Screwdriver set
* Gear oil
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission filter

Adjustment procedure:

1. Preparation:

* Put the car in park mode and apply the parking brake.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Raise the car using a jack and place it on stands.

2. Removing the automatic transmission pan:

* Place a container under the automatic transmission pan to collect leaking oil.
* Unscrew the automatic transmission pan bolts and carefully remove the pan.
* Drain the remaining oil from the pan.

3. Brake band adjustment:

* Locate the brake band adjustment screw, which is usually located on the side of the transmission housing facing the engine.
* Using a screwdriver, loosen the self-locking nut on the adjustment screw.
* Turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen the brake band. Turn the screw until the brake band moves freely.

4. Brake band tightening:

* Now you need to tighten the brake band to the correct operating gap.
* Start tightening the adjustment screw clockwise until the brake band becomes a little tight.
* Insert a thin metal strip (or feeler gauge) between the belt and the drum and try to tighten it. The correct gap is 0.15-0.25 mm.
*If the gap is too small, loosen the adjustment screw and repeat the steps. If the gap is too large, tighten the adjustment screw and repeat the steps.

5. Tightening the self-locking nut:

* When the brake band is adjusted correctly, tighten the self-locking nut on the adjustment screw.
* Make sure the nut is tightened correctly, but do not overtighten.

6. Installation:

* Clean the pan and the seating surface of the automatic transmission housing.
* Install a new gasket on the automatic transmission pan.
* Reinstall the pan and tighten the bolts in the correct tightening order.
* Fill in transmission oil through the dipstick hole.
* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.

7. Checking the level and adding transmission oil:

* Check the transmission oil level using the dipstick.
*Add oil if necessary and make sure the level is at the “HOT” mark on the dipstick.

8. Final steps:

* Install the negative terminal of the battery.
* Lower the vehicle and take it for a test drive to ensure that the automatic transmission is operating properly.
