Adjusting the brake band of the Nissan Sunny FB15 automatic transmission
Required tools and materials:
* 10 mm socket wrench
* Flat head screwdriver
* Set of probes
* Gasket for automatic transmission oil pan
Procedure:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the automatic transmission oil pan:
* Unscrew the automatic transmission oil pan bolts with a 10 mm socket wrench.
* Carefully remove the oil pan, being careful not to damage the gasket.
3. Find the brake band adjusting bolt:
* The bolt is located on the automatic transmission housing, next to the throttle valve.
*It looks like a bolt with a locknut.
4. Check the gap between the brake band and the drum:
* Insert the feeler gauge between the brake band and the drum.
* The standard gap is 0.35-0.45 mm.
5. Adjust the gap:
* While holding the locknut with a screwdriver, turn the adjusting bolt to set the correct clearance.
*Tighten the bolt a little at a time, checking the clearance after each turn.
6. Tighten the locknut.
7. Reinstall the automatic transmission oil pan:
* Install a new pan gasket on the automatic transmission housing.
* Screw the automatic transmission oil pan with bolts and tighten them.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid.
Notes:
* Brake band adjustment should be carried out on a cold gearbox.
* Do not overtighten the adjusting bolt as this may damage the brake band.
*If the gap is too large, it may cause the transmission to slip.
*If the clearance is too small, it may cause overheating and premature wear of the brake band.
