Adjusting the brake band of automatic transmission Mazda 626

Tools and materials:

* Set of keys
* Screwdriver
* Feeler gauge or gap gauge

Procedure:

1. Prepare the car:

* Place the car on a flat surface.
* Turn off the engine and place the gear selector in the “Parking” position.

2. Find the adjusting nut:

* Remove the automatic transmission pan.
*Locate the adjusting nut, usually located on or near the countershaft.

3. Loosen the lock nut:

* Loosen the lock nut using a wrench, but do not unscrew it completely.

4. Adjust the gap:

* Insert a feeler gauge or gap gauge between the brake band and the drum. The ideal gap is 0.125-0.250 mm.
* Turn the adjusting nut until you reach the desired clearance.

5. Tighten the lock nut:

* Tighten the lock nut to the torque specified in the service manual (usually about 7-10 Nm).

6. Install the automatic transmission pan:

* Reinstall the automatic transmission pan and tighten the fastening bolts.

7. Check the operation of the automatic transmission:

* Start the engine and check the operation of the automatic transmission by changing gears.
* Make sure the transmission shifts smoothly without noise or slippage.
