Adjusting the automatic transmission cable on a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

Required tools:

* Set of keys
* Flat head screwdriver
* Ruler or measuring tape

Instructions:

1. Preparation

* Place the gear shift lever in the Park (P) position.
* Stop the engine and remove the key from the ignition.
* Open the hood.

2. Location determination

* Locate the automatic transmission cable under the hood. It is usually located to the right of the engine and has a black plastic housing.

3. Loosening the clamping bolts

* Loosen the two clamp bolts that secure the cable to the bracket on the transmission. To do this, use a 10 mm wrench.

4.Measurement

* Measure the distance from the center of the hole on the transmission bracket to the center of the hole on the shift lever. The approximate distance should be about 160mm.

5. Adjustment

* Loosen or tighten the adjusting bolt on the cable using a flathead screwdriver. When tightening the adjusting bolt, the distance will decrease, and when unscrewing, it will increase.
* Turn the bolt gradually until the measured distance reaches the above value (approximately 160mm).

6. Tightening the clamp bolts

* Once you are sure the adjustment is correct, tighten the clamp bolts on the cable. The tightening torque is approximately 11 Nm.

7. Check

* Start the engine and shift through all gears (P, R, N, D). Make sure all gears engage smoothly and without difficulty.

Adviсe:

*If you cannot get the correct adjustment, consult a mechanic.
* If the automatic transmission cable is worn or damaged, it must be replaced.
* Check and adjust the automatic transmission cable regularly to ensure proper operation.
