Materials required to adjust the automatic transmission cable:
* 12mm Metric Allen Key
* Ruler or tape measure
* Rags
How to adjust the automatic transmission cable on a Nissan Almera Classic:
1. Make sure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the parking brake engaged.
2. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
3. Open the hood and find the automatic transmission cable. It is usually located near the throttle body and has a black or silver guard.
4. Locate the adjusting nut on the cable. This is usually a hex nut located at the end of the cable, closest to the gearbox.
5. Loosen the adjusting nut with a 12 mm wrench. Do not loosen the nut completely; it should remain on the thread.
6. Slide the protective cover along the cable to gain access to the interior.
7. Locate the mark on the end of the inner part of the cable. This could be an arrow, a dot, or a small protrusion.
8. Use a ruler or tape measure to measure the distance from the mark on the cable to the adjusting nut. For most Nissan Almera Classic vehicles, the correct distance is 21.9 mm.
9. Adjust the cable by turning the adjusting nut with a 12 mm wrench. Turn the nut clockwise to shorten the cable, or counterclockwise to lengthen the cable.
10. Continue adjusting the cable until the distance from the mark to the adjusting nut is 21.9 mm.
11. Check the cable by moving the gear shift lever between all positions. The cable should move smoothly and without jamming.
12. Tighten the adjusting nut.
13. Slide the protective cover into place.
14. Turn off the engine and check the transmission fluid level. The fluid should be at the bottom mark of the dipstick. If the fluid level is low, add it to the required level.
Adviсe:
* Do not overtighten the adjusting nut as this may damage the cable.
*If you have difficulty adjusting the transmission cable, consult a qualified mechanic.
* It is recommended to check and adjust the automatic transmission cable every 30,000 km or in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
