Step 1: Checking ATF Level

* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
* Place the car on a flat surface.
* Remove the automatic transmission oil dipstick, wipe it and insert it back.

Step 2: Adjusting the Shift Cable

* Loosen the shift cable locknut.
* Adjust the cable so that the gears shift smoothly and without delay.
* Tighten the locknut.

Step 3: ATF Pressure Adjustment

For vehicles with 4-speed automatic transmission (722.4):

* Connect a pressure gauge to the pressure control port on the valve body.
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Set the pressure regulator to manufacturer specifications (typically 6 ± 0.5 bar).

For vehicles with 5-speed automatic transmission (722.5):

* This procedure is not required for the 722.5 automatic transmission.

Step 4: Reset adaptation values

* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 10 seconds.
* Reconnect the terminal.
* Start the engine and let it idle for 10 minutes while changing gears.

Notes:

* When making adjustments, use only transmission fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
* Check the condition of the torque converter driven disk, as wear can affect the operation of the automatic transmission.
* If after adjustment problems with the operation of the automatic transmission remain, internal repairs may be required.
