Adaptation of automatic transmission BMW X5 E53 Restyling
Adaptation of the automatic transmission (automatic transmission) is necessary to adjust the operating parameters of the box and ensure optimal gear shifting. Adaptation must be performed after replacing the automatic transmission, mechatronic unit, hydraulic unit or carrying out repair work related to the automatic transmission.
The procedure for adapting the automatic transmission of the BMW X5 E53 Restyling:
1. Preparation:
* Make sure the automatic transmission is warmed up to operating temperature.
* The vehicle must be parked on a level surface with the parking brake applied.
* The gear shift lever must be in the ‘P’ position.
2. Connection to diagnostic equipment:
* Connect the diagnostic scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic connector.
* Select the automatic transmission module in the program.
3. Resetting adaptation values:
* Find in the program the function ‘reset adaptation values’ or ‘reset automatic transmission settings’.
* Launch this feature and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Adaptation by pressing the brake pedal:
* Start the adaptation procedure through the diagnostic scanner.
* Press and hold the brake pedal for 30 seconds without touching the accelerator pedal.
5. Gear shift adaptation:
* Move the gear lever to position ‘D’ and leave it there for 10 seconds.
* Then move the lever to the ‘R’ position and leave it there for 10 seconds.
* Repeat steps with ‘N’, ‘D’ and ‘R’ positions.
6. Torque converter lock-up adaptation:
* Accelerate the vehicle to a speed of at least 80 km/h on a flat road.
* Release the accelerator pedal and check that the torque converter is locked.
* Repeat the step several times.
7. Completion:
* After completing all adaptation steps, turn off the scanner.
* Turn off the ignition and wait a few minutes.
* Start the engine and make sure the automatic transmission is operating correctly.
Note:
*Adaptation time may vary depending on BMW model and year of manufacture.
* It is recommended to carry out adaptation of the automatic transmission in a specialized service center using professional diagnostic equipment.
* Incorrect adaptation of the automatic transmission can lead to problems with gear shifting or gearbox failure.
