Algorithm for adapting an automatic transmission after an oil change

Required tools:

* OBD-II diagnostic scanner
* Vehicle operating instructions

Note: Adaptation steps may vary depending on vehicle make and model. Always follow the instructions in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.

Adaptation steps:

1. Warm up the engine and transmission. Let the engine idle for a few minutes until the transmission fluid reaches operating temperature.

2. Connect the OBD-II diagnostic scanner. Connect the scan tool to the diagnostic connector, usually located under the driver’s dashboard.

3. Select the transmission reset/adapt function. In the scanner menu, find and select the function related to transmission reset/adaptation.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen. The scanner will guide you through the onboarding process. It usually includes the following steps:

* Selection of transmission type
* Reset/adaptation confirmation
* Following specific driving instructions (e.g. keeping revs at a certain level, changing gears in a specified order)

5. Complete the onboarding process. After following the on-screen instructions, the scanner will complete adaptation.

6. Erase fault codes. Once adjusted, erase any transmission-related fault codes using a scan tool.

7. Check transmission operation. Drive the car and check for smooth gear shifting. If you notice any problems, contact a qualified mechanic.

Additional tips:

*Before performing adaptation, make sure the transmission fluid level is correct.
*Use only manufacturer recommended transmission fluid.
*If you are unsure about the adaptation process, consult a qualified mechanic.
* Adaptation may take from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the complexity of the procedure.
