Automatic transmission adaptation after oil change for Mercedes-Benz

Required equipment:

* STAR Diagnosis diagnostic scanner

Adaptation procedure:

1. Reading fault codes:

* Connect the STAR Diagnosis scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic port.
* Select the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
* Read and record any trouble codes or warnings.

2. Reset adaptation values:

* Select the ‘Adaptation reset’ function.
* Start the reset process.
* This will delete the stored learning values ​​from the TCM.

3. Basic settings:

* Select the ‘Basic settings’ function.
* Start the basic settings procedure.
* This sets the initial values ​​for various automatic transmission parameters.

4. Gear shift training:

* Select the ‘Gear shift learning’ function.
*Follow the instructions on the scan tool and complete the shift learning procedure.

5. Dynamic training:

* Select the ‘Dynamic training’ function.
*Follow the instructions on the scanner and complete the dynamic learning procedure.
*This includes driving in a variety of driving conditions to optimize automatic transmission performance.

6. Resetting current training conditions:

* After completing the tutorial, switch to the ‘Current Conditions’ tab.
* Reset all training related settings.

7. Clearing fault codes:

*Check for new fault codes.
* Clear all codes, if any.

8. Check:

* Test the automatic transmission under various driving conditions to ensure proper operation.

Notes:

* Do not start the car engine while performing the procedure.
* Make sure the automatic transmission fluid level is at the correct level.
* In some Mercedes-Benz models, adaptation occurs automatically after an oil change. Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for more details.
