Adaptation of automatic transmission after replacement with Toyota
Adaptation of the automatic transmission is necessary so that the electronic control unit (ECU) of the automatic transmission recognizes the new gearbox and can control it correctly. This improves gear shifting and extends the life of the automatic transmission.
Required tools:
* OBD-II scanner
* Software for automatic transmission adaptation
Adaptation process:
1. Start the engine and let it idle.
2. Connect the OBD-II scanner to the connector under the vehicle’s instrument panel.
3. Launch the automatic transmission adaptation software.
4. Select your vehicle make, model, and year from the drop-down lists.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to enter the automatic transmission control unit.
6. Select the automatic transmission adaptation function.
7. Follow the onscreen instructions to start the onboarding process.
8. During the adaptation process, do not change gears or touch the gas pedal.
9. Wait for the onboarding process to complete. Duration may vary depending on vehicle model.
10. Once the adaptation is complete, click the ‘exit’ button in the software and turn off the OBD-II scanner.
Notes:
* Do not carry out adaptation immediately after replacing the automatic transmission. Let the new transmission run for a few weeks to break in.
* Do not carry out adaptation if the transmission fluid level is low in the automatic transmission.
* If you have difficulty adapting your automatic transmission, contact a qualified mechanic.
* Adaptation is recommended every 30,000-50,000 kilometers or after any major automatic transmission repair work.
