Automatic transmission torque converter lock-up solenoid

Description

This is a solenoid valve that controls the locking of the torque converter in an automatic transmission (automatic transmission).

Function

*Puts the torque converter into a locked state when certain driving conditions are reached.
* Torque converter lock-up eliminates slippage between torque converter input and output, resulting in improved transmission efficiency.

Design

* Typically consists of the following components:
* Plunger
* Electromagnetic coil
* Spring
* Frame

Operating principle

* When the automatic transmission control module sends a signal to the solenoid, the solenoid coil creates a magnetic field.
* The magnetic field pulls the plunger against the spring, moving it inside the housing.
*Moving the plunger opens the hydraulic passage, allowing fluid to pass through and activate the torque converter lock-up mechanism.

Trigger

*Trigger conditions for the torque converter lockup solenoid typically include:
* Reaching a certain vehicle speed
* Reaching a certain engine load

Benefits of Torque Converter Lockup

* Improved transmission efficiency
* Reduced fuel consumption
* Increased torque at wheels

Malfunctions

*A faulty torque converter lock-up solenoid can cause the following problems:
* No torque converter lockup
* Fuel burn
*Decreased cravings
