Vehicle electrical system inspection
1. Battery
* Check the battery terminals for corrosion or looseness.
* Tighten the terminals if necessary.
* Clean the terminals from corrosion if any is found.
* Check electrolyte level (if applicable) and add distilled water if necessary.
2. Generator
* Check the alternator belt for wear, cracks or looseness.
* Replace the belt if necessary.
* Check the alternator terminals for corrosion or looseness.
* Tighten the terminals if necessary.
3. Starter
* Check the starter terminals for corrosion or looseness.
* Tighten the terminals if necessary.
* Check the starter wire for damage or wear.
* Replace the wire if necessary.
4. Spark plugs
* Remove the spark plugs and inspect them.
* Check the electrodes for wear or deposits.
* Clean or replace spark plugs as necessary.
5. Ignition wires
* Inspect the ignition wires for damage, cracks or wear.
* Replace wires if necessary.
* Check the resistance of the wires.
6. Lighting
* Turn on all headlights, side lights, turn signals and reverse lights.
* Check if all lamps are lit properly.
* Replace burnt out lamps.
7. Fuses and relays
* Locate the fuse and relay box.
* Inspect fuses for blown fuses.
* Replace blown fuses.
* Check the relay for proper operation.
8. Wiring
* Inspect wiring for damage, cracks or wear.
* Replace damaged wires.
* Tighten loose connections.
9. Engine control system
*Use a diagnostic scanner to check for trouble codes.
* Review and resolve any trouble codes found.
* Check the operation of the sensors and actuators of the engine management system.
10. Other electrical components
* Check the serviceability of components such as:
* Electric windows
* Electric mirrors
* Central locking
* Radio and audio system
Notes:
