UAZ electrical system
All UAZ models use a 12-volt negative ground. All models have a 70-amp alternator and a 55-Ah battery.
Main components of the electrical system:
* Battery: Provides power to the vehicle’s electrical systems when the engine is not running.
* Alternator: Charges the battery and provides power to the system while the engine is running.
* Starter: Starts the engine.
* Ignition switch: Controls engine starting and stopping, as well as power to accessories.
* Regulator relay: Regulates the voltage produced by the generator.
* Fuses and Relays: Protect the electrical system from overloads and short circuits.
* Engine Control Unit (ECU): Controls the operation of the engine.
Wiring:
The UAZ electrical system is divided into several circuits:
*Starting Circuit: Provides power to the starter.
* Ignition Circuit: Provides power to the ignition system.
* Lighting Circuit: Provides power to headlights, flashlights and other lighting fixtures.
* Accessory Circuit: Provides power to accessories such as the heater, windshield wipers and power steering.
Basic electrical circuits:
* Starting circuit: Battery -> ignition switch -> starter relay -> starter.
* Ignition circuit: Battery -> ignition switch -> ignition coil -> spark plugs.
* Lighting circuit: Battery -> ignition switch -> light switch -> headlights, flashlights, etc.
* Accessories diagram: Battery -> fuses and relays -> accessories.
Maintenance Tips:
* Check the battery and battery terminals regularly for corrosion and tight connections.
* Check the generator and relay regulator for proper operation.
* Replace fuses and relays that burn out.
* Clean electrical connectors regularly to remove corrosion and dirt.
* If problems occur with the electrical system, contact a qualified mechanic.
