Toyota RAV4 transmission modes

P (Parking): Parking. Locks the transmission by using the parking pin to secure the transmission output shaft.

R (Reverse): Reverse. Engages reverse gear.

N (Neutral): Neutral. Disconnects the transmission from the engine.

D (Drive): Forward movement. Automatically shifts between gears for optimal performance and fuel consumption.

S (Sport): Sports mode. Provides sharper acceleration and holds gears longer for a sportier feel.

ECT-PWR (Power): Power mode. Improves engine and transmission performance for added acceleration.

L (Low): Low gear. Used for steep slopes or towing heavy loads.

B (Brake): Braking mode. Provides additional engine braking on steep descents or when launching from a trailer.

M (Manual): Manual mode. Allows the driver to manually change gears.

+/- (Sequential Shift): Shifts gears in sequential mode. Allows the driver to change between gears using steering wheel paddle shifters.
