Torque converter oil seal, automatic transmission AL4

Purpose:

The AL4 automatic transmission torque converter seal serves to seal the connection between the torque converter and the transmission housing, preventing transmission fluid leakage.

Design:

The oil seal consists of two parts:

* Metal housing with a working edge that is adjacent to the surface of the torque converter.
* A rubber seal that is pinched between the metal housing and the gearbox housing.

Materials:

* Metal body: aluminum or steel
* Rubber seal: oil resistant rubber such as nitrile or fluoroelastomer

Installation:

The torque converter oil seal is installed in the corresponding groove on the gearbox housing. The rubber seal is lubricated with transmission fluid to ensure a seal.

Replacement:

Replacing the torque converter seal of an AL4 automatic transmission is usually required if it fails, which can lead to transmission fluid leakage.

Symptoms of a faulty torque converter oil seal:

* Leakage of transmission fluid from the area between the torque converter and the gearbox.
* Drop in transmission fluid level in the gearbox.
* Difficulty shifting gears.
* Gear slippage.

Important: Replacing the AL4 automatic transmission torque converter oil seal should be performed by a qualified specialist using special tools and equipment.
