Torque converter automatic transmission Nissan X-Trail

Purpose:

* Transmits torque from the engine to the transmission, compensating for the speed difference between them.
* Ensures smooth starting and gear shifting.

Design:

* Consists of a pump (turbine wheel), a turbine (reaction wheel) and a stator (stationary reactor).
* The pump is driven by the engine, the turbine is connected to the input shaft of the transmission, and the stator is installed between them.

Working principle:

* When the engine is running, the pump supplies transmission fluid to the turbine.
* The turbine rotates under the influence of fluid, transmitting torque to the stator.
* The stator directs fluid back to the pump, creating hydraulic torque.
* As a result, the torque from the engine increases, which ensures smooth starting and gear shifting.

Types of torque converters used in Nissan X-Trail automatic transmissions:

* Single stage: The simplest type with one turbine and one pump.
* Multistage: Has two or more turbines and pumps, resulting in smoother operation and increased efficiency.
*Lock-up: Features a lock-up clutch that connects the pump and turbine under certain conditions, reducing power loss due to slippage.

Signs of a torque converter malfunction:

* Slipping when changing gears
* Delay when switching gears
* Noise or vibration when the transmission is running
* Transmission fluid overheating

If you notice signs of a torque converter malfunction, it is recommended to contact a specialized workshop for diagnosis and repair.
