Changing automatic transmission gears using buttons on Toyota

1. “P” (Parking) button

* Sets the car to parking mode.
* Locks the rear wheels and transmission.

2. Button “R” (Reverse)

* Shifts the transmission into reverse mode.

3. Button “N” (Neutral)

* Sets the transmission to neutral.
* Disconnects the transmission from the engine.

4. Button “D” (Drive)

*Switches the transmission to normal driving mode.
* Automatically changes gears depending on engine speed and load.

5. “+/-” button

* Upshift (+): When driving in “D” mode, shifts to a higher gear.
* Downshift (-): When driving in “D” mode, shifts to a lower gear.

Manual shift mode

* Press the “M” button on the gear lever.
* The gear shift lever moves left and right to change gears manually.

Peculiarities

* Some Toyota vehicles have an additional “S” (Sport Mode) button that improves the transmission’s response to the accelerator pedal.
* Select Toyota vehicles have an “Eco Mode” feature that optimizes transmission performance for improved fuel economy.

Important Notes

* Always move the gear shift lever to the “P” (Park) position before turning the ignition off.
* Do not shift the gear shift lever to the “R” (Reverse) position while driving.
