Engine spin-up
* Start the engine and let it idle to warm up the engine and lubricants.
* Shift the gear lever to the “D” (Drive) position.
* When you press the accelerator pedal, the engine will start to spin up.
Shifting gears
* The transmission automatically shifts to the appropriate gear depending on the speed and load on the engine.
*You can change gears manually using the gear lever or paddle shifters (if equipped).
Four steps of acceleration
1. Slow acceleration: Gently press the accelerator pedal. The transmission will shift to higher gears, providing smooth and economical acceleration.
2. Moderate acceleration: Press the accelerator pedal harder. The transmission will shift to lower gears, providing more powerful acceleration but lower fuel economy.
3. Sharp acceleration: Pressing the accelerator pedal quickly and completely. The transmission will shift to the lowest gear (called kickdown), providing maximum acceleration.
4. Maintain speed: After reaching the desired speed, release the accelerator pedal. The transmission will shift to a higher gear to maintain speed while minimizing fuel consumption.
Tips for accelerating with an automatic transmission
* Avoid sudden acceleration from idle. Wait until the engine warms up.
* Plan accelerations in advance to avoid sudden movements that could damage the transmission.
* Shift to a lower gear when climbing a hill or towing a load.
* Use kickdown only in emergency situations or for overtaking.
* Obey speed limits and traffic rules.
