Self-diagnosis of Nissan Largo automatic transmission

Required tools:

* Paperclip or piece of wire
* Portable lamp 12V

Procedure:

1. Preparing the car

* Stop the engine.
*Place the gear shift lever in the “P” (park) position.
* Remove the negative battery terminal.

2. Lamp connection

* Connect one wire from the lamp to the negative terminal of the battery.
* Clamp the other wire to one terminal of the DLC (Data Link Connector) terminal located under the dashboard on the driver’s side.
* Connect the second pin of the DLC terminal to the vehicle body (ground).

3. Read codes

* Reinstall the negative battery terminal.
* Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
* Connect pins “T” and “E1” on the DLC terminal together using a paper clip or wire.
* The lamp will begin to flash indicating fault codes.

4. Interpretation of codes

* Slow flashes (approximately 1 flash per second) indicate code digits.
*Rapid flashes (approximately 3 flashes per second) indicate decimal code values.

Example:

* 1 slow flash, then 5 fast flashes = code 15
* 2 slow flashes, then 7 fast flashes = code 27

5. Recording codes

* Write down any trouble codes observed during self-diagnosis.
*Refer to your service manual or Nissan DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) catalog for more details on each code.

6. Reset codes

* After troubleshooting and repairs, it is possible to reset automatic transmission codes using a scanner or dealer diagnostic equipment.

Note:

* If no codes are detected during the self-diagnosis, it means that there are currently no stored automatic transmission trouble codes.
*A self-test is not a substitute for a full transmission inspection by a qualified mechanic.
