Automatic transmission selector illumination Toyota RAV4

Required tools:

* Set of screwdrivers (flat and Phillips)
* Plastic prying tool
* New LED (2835 SMD)

Procedure:

1. Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent a short circuit.

2. Remove the center console

* Carefully pry up the plastic panel around the automatic transmission selector using a plastic prying tool.
* Disconnect the connectors going to the panel.
* Remove the screws securing the center console to the dashboard.
* Lift and remove the center console.

3. Remove the automatic transmission selector housing

* Unscrew the screws securing the automatic transmission selector housing.
* Carefully remove the cover.

4. Replace LED

* Find the LED that is responsible for illuminating the automatic transmission selector.
*Use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry and remove the LED.
* Insert the new LED into place, observing the correct polarity (+ to +, – to -).

5. Reassemble everything in reverse order

* Reinstall the automatic transmission selector housing and tighten the screws.
* Install the center console and tighten the screws.
* Connect the connectors to the panel around the automatic transmission selector.
* Click the plastic panel back into place.

6. Connect the battery

Connect the negative terminal of the battery.

Examination:

* Turn on the headlights and check if the automatic transmission selector light is on.

*Make sure you purchase the correct LED.
* Be careful when removing and installing plastic parts to avoid breaking them.
*If you experience difficulty, consult your vehicle’s repair manual or a qualified mechanic.
