Replacing the torque converter oil seal in the automatic transmission of Audi A6 C5
Required tools and materials:
* Car repair tool kit
* Pliers
* New torque converter oil seal
* Fresh automatic transmission fluid
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Oil scraper ring
* Brake cleaner
* Spatula for sealant
Instructions:
1. Preparation:
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Lifting the car:
* Raise the car using jacks or a lift.
* Secure the car on supports.
3. Removing the automatic transmission pan:
* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
* Carefully remove the pan and drain the automatic transmission fluid into a container.
4. Removing the old oil seal:
* Find the old torque converter seal. It is located in the center of the pallet.
* Use pliers to remove the old oil seal.
5. Installing a new oil seal:
* Clean the oil seal seat with brake cleaner.
* Apply a thin layer of sealant to the seat.
* Carefully install the new oil seal into the seat.
* Insert the oil scraper ring into the oil seal groove.
6. Installing the automatic transmission pan:
* Install the gasket on the automatic transmission pan.
* Lift the pan and align it with the automatic transmission housing.
* Tighten the pan mounting bolts.
7. Filling with automatic transmission fluid:
* Locate the automatic transmission filler hole.
* Pour fresh automatic transmission fluid into the filler hole to the required level.
* Tighten the filler plug.
8. Resetting fault codes:
* Connect the diagnostic scanner to the vehicle.
* Read and clear any automatic transmission related fault codes.
9. Assembly:
* Lower the vehicle and tighten all bolts.
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
10. Check:
* Start the engine and check the automatic transmission fluid level.
* Move the automatic transmission selector to various positions and check for leaks or problems with gear shifting.
