Automatic transmission radiator repair procedure

Tools and materials:

* Wrench set
* Flat blade screwdriver
* Phillips screwdriver
* Hex keys
* New automatic transmission cooling radiator
* Transmission fluid
* Gasket for automatic transmission radiator

Security measures:

* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Allow the engine to cool before starting operation.
*Work in a well-ventilated area.

Steps:

1. Remove the engine bottom cover: Use a wrench to remove the bolts securing the engine bottom cover. Remove the cover to access the radiator.

2. Drain transmission fluid: Place a drain pan under the radiator and disconnect the transmission fluid cooling lines from the radiator. The liquid will drain into the pan.

3. Disconnect the coolant lines: Use a wrench to remove the bolts holding the coolant lines to the radiator. Carefully slide the cooling lines away from the radiator.

4. Remove the mounting bolts: Use a wrench or hex key to remove the bolts holding the radiator to the vehicle frame.

5. Remove the old radiator: Gently pull the old radiator forward to remove it from its place. Drain the remaining transmission fluid.

6. Install the new radiator: Insert the new radiator into the mounting location. Tighten the mounting bolts with a wrench or hex key.

7. Connect the coolant lines: Place the coolant lines onto the radiator and tighten the bolts.

8. Fill with transmission fluid: Place a funnel in the transmission filler hole. Pour new transmission fluid into the funnel and top up to the required level.

9. Install the radiator gasket: Install a new gasket onto the radiator and press it against the coolant line flange.

10. Connect the engine bottom cover: Reinstall the engine bottom cover and tighten the mounting bolts.

11. Connect the negative terminal of the battery: Connect the negative terminal of the battery to complete the process.

12. Check the transmission fluid level: Run the engine at idle speed and check the transmission fluid level using the dipstick. Add fluid if necessary.

Note: On some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the front end of the vehicle to gain access to the transmission cooler. Consult your specific vehicle’s service manual for details.
