Location of automatic transmission temperature sensor in Kia Sorento:

Models before 2016:

* To the right of the oil filter housing.
*Connected to the wiring harness going to the automatic transmission ECU.

2016 and newer models:

* Built into the automatic transmission housing.
* Available only when removing the automatic transmission pan.

Automatic transmission temperature sensor function:

The automatic transmission temperature sensor measures the temperature of the transmission fluid and transmits this information to the automatic transmission ECU.

Working principle:

*As transmission fluid temperature increases, sensor resistance decreases.
* The automatic transmission ECU recognizes changes in resistance and adjusts transmission operation in accordance with the current fluid temperature.

Possible symptoms of a faulty automatic transmission temperature sensor:

* Incorrect automatic transmission temperature readings
* Problems with gear shifting
* Gearbox slippage
*Transmission overheating
* Automatic transmission fault indicator lights up

Checking the automatic transmission temperature sensor:

* Connect an OBD-II scanner to check the automatic transmission temperature readings.
* Compare readings to expected values for the appropriate year and model of vehicle.
*Measure the resistance of the sensor using a multimeter. Compare the measured resistance with the specifications.
*If the readings are not as expected or the sensor resistance is not within specifications, the sensor may be faulty and need to be replaced.
