Complete automatic transmission oil change in Kia Optima

Materials required for a complete automatic transmission oil change:

* Transmission oil (volume depends on your car model)
* Automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Tool set
* Container for draining old oil

Stages of a complete automatic transmission oil change:

1. Preparation

* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to warm up the oil.
* Place the car on a flat surface.
* Place a container to drain the oil under the automatic transmission pan.

2. Drain the old oil

* Unscrew the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan.
* Allow the old oil to drain into a container.
* When the oil stops flowing, tighten the drain plug.

3. Removing the automatic transmission pan

* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
* Carefully remove the tray.

4. Replacing the automatic transmission filter

* Remove the old automatic transmission filter.
* Reinstall the new filter.

5. Installing the automatic transmission pan

* Clean the surface of the pan and the adjacent surface on the automatic transmission housing.
* Apply sealant to the pan gasket.
* Reinstall the pan and tighten the mounting bolts.

6. Refilling with new oil

* Fill the automatic transmission with new oil through the dipstick hole.
* Check the oil level and add more if necessary.

7. Starting the engine

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes in park mode.
* Switch the automatic transmission selector between all positions to pump the oil.

8. Checking the oil level

* Check the automatic transmission oil level on the dipstick. The level should be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks.
*Add more oil if necessary.

Recommendations:

* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission oil in accordance with the intervals specified in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
* Use only original automatic transmission oil or an equivalent recommended by the manufacturer.
*If you do not have experience working with automatic transmissions, it is recommended that you have the work done by a qualified mechanic.
