Installing a manual transmission instead of an automatic transmission on a Mercedes car
Preparatory stage:
* Purchase a compatible manual transmission and matching flywheel for your Mercedes vehicle.
*Gather necessary tools and materials, including:
* Set of wrenches and socket heads
* Driver and extensions
* Oil filter removal wrench
* Transmission oil and hydraulic clutch fluid
* New oil pan gasket
* New gasket for rear crankshaft oil seal
Installation process:
1. Removing the automatic transmission:
* Raise the car and place it on stands.
* Drain the transmission fluid from the automatic transmission.
* Disconnect the battery.
* Remove the subframe.
* Disconnect all electrical connectors from the automatic transmission.
* Disconnect the driveshaft.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the engine and vehicle frame.
* Carefully disconnect the automatic transmission from the engine and remove it.
2. Installation of manual transmission:
* Install a new flywheel on the engine.
* Attach the manual transmission to the engine and frame using bolts.
* Connect the driveshaft to the manual transmission.
* Connect all electrical connectors to the manual transmission.
3. Clutch:
* Remove the automatic transmission flywheel and install a new clutch flywheel.
* Install a new clutch disc on the flywheel.
* Install the clutch basket over the clutch disc.
* Align the clutch basket with the flywheel using an alignment tool.
* Secure the clutch basket with bolts.
* Install the release bearing.
* Replace the rear engine cover and install a new rear crankshaft oil seal.
4. Oil filling:
* Fill the manual transmission with transmission oil.
* Fill the hydraulic clutch with fluid.
5. Completion:
* Reinstall the subframe.
* Connect the battery.
* Lower the car.
Testing:
* Check the fluid level in the hydraulic clutch and add if necessary.
* Start the car and check the clutch and gear shifting.
*Take a test drive to make sure everything works correctly.
