Hyundai Getz automatic transmission diagram

Torque converter

* Converts engine torque into hydraulic energy.
* Helps transfer power smoothly to the transmission.

Planetary gearbox

* Consists of three planetary gears and a sun gear.
* Changes the transmission ratio.

Friction packs

*Controlled by electromagnets to switch various gears on and off.

Brake bands

*Helps prevent slipping of planetary gears.

Transmission control unit (TCU)

* Electronic control unit that controls the operation of the transmission.
* Accepts input from sensors such as speed sensor and gear position sensor.

Gear ratios

| Transfer | Gear ratio |
|—|—|
| P (parking) | 0 |
| R (reverse) | -2.833 |
| N (neutral) | 0 |
| D (movement) | 2.806-0.696 |
| 3 | 1.676-0.933 |
| 2 | 1.000-0.696 |
| L (lowest) | 2,450 |

Fluid flow diagram

Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) circulates through the following components:

* Torque converter
* Planetary gearbox
* Friction packs
* Brake bands
* Oil pan
* Oil pump
* ATF cooler
* TCU

Cooling system

*The ATF cooler cools the ATF fluid, preventing the transmission from overheating.
* ATF also serves as a lubricant for all moving parts.

Sensors

*The speed sensor measures the rotational speed of the transmission output shaft.
* The gear selector position sensor detects the position of the gear selector.
* The ATF temperature sensor measures the temperature of the ATF fluid.

Solenoids

*The line pressure control solenoid regulates the ATF pressure within the transmission.
* Gear selection solenoids direct ATF fluid to various friction packs and brake bands to engage and disengage gears.
* The torque converter lock-up solenoid locks the torque converter at high speeds for improved efficiency.
