Torque converter automatic transmission Nissan Tiida

Purpose

The torque converter in the Nissan Tiida automatic transmission performs the following functions:

*Transmission of torque from engine to gearbox
* Smoothing of engine torsional vibrations
* Increased torque at low engine speeds

Design

The Nissan Tiida automatic transmission torque converter consists of three main components:

* Pump wheel (turbine): Connected to the engine crankshaft and rotates at its speed.
* Reactor wheel (stator): Installed between the pump and turbine wheels and partially restricts the flow of working fluid.
* Turbine wheel: Connected to the gearbox shaft and rotates at a lower speed than the pump wheel.

Operating principle

Torque is transmitted through the working fluid, which circulates between the three wheels of the torque converter. The pump wheel imparts speed and energy to the fluid, which is transferred to the turbine wheel through the reactor wheel.

Since the turbine wheel rotates slower than the pump wheel, an increase in torque (transformation) occurs. This increase in torque is especially useful during standing starts and acceleration.

Characteristics of the Nissan Tiida torque converter

* Type: Single Reactor
*Diameter: About 200mm
* Gear ratio: Approximately 2.8:1
*Maximum torque: About 250 Nm
*Working fluid: ATF (transmission fluid)

Service

It is recommended to change the torque converter fluid according to the vehicle’s operating manual. Contaminated fluid can lead to reduced torque converter performance and even damage.
