When warming up a cold automatic transmission:
1. Start the engine and let it idle for 1-2 minutes. This will allow the oil in the box to warm up.
2. Move the gear selector to the “D” (Drive) position.
3. Apply the brake and remove the car from parking mode.
4. Lightly press the accelerator pedal.
5. Hold light acceleration for 3-5 seconds.
6. Release the accelerator pedal and press the brake.
7. Return the selector lever to the “P” (Park) position.
8. Leave the engine idling for another 1-2 minutes.
9. Repeat steps 2 to 8 several times.
Keeping a warm automatic transmission warm:
* Drive at light speed for the first few minutes. This helps the oil in the box continue to circulate and stay warm.
* Avoid sudden starts and stops. This can lead to increased wear on the gearbox.
*Do not tow heavy loads or trailers until the transmission is warm. This places additional stress on the transmission and can cause it to overheat.
