Symptoms of automatic transmission malfunction:

Gear slippage:

* Engine speed increases, but the vehicle does not accelerate or accelerates slowly.
* Programs may be switched off and on without your knowledge.

Gear shift delays:

* The transmission is slow to shift or shifts rough.
* Transmissions may not turn on at all.

Rough gear shifts:

* Gear shifts with noticeable jolts or jerks.
* Vibration or noise is felt when shifting gears.

Noise or vibration:

* Constant noise or hum when driving at certain speeds.
* Vibration transmitted to the steering wheel, floor or seats.

Leaks:

* Transmission fluid stains under the car.
*Low transmission fluid level, checked with dipstick.

Torque converter lockup problems:

* Uneven engine speed when driving at a constant speed.
*Feeling of clutch slipping when accelerating.

Overheat:

* The transmission overheat indicator comes on.
*Transmission fluid turns dark or smells burnt.
* The feeling that the car is “stuck” in gear.

Other signs:

* Smell of burning or burnt oil.
* Difficulty when shifting gears from Park (P) or Neutral (N).
* Flashing or illuminated transmission fault indicator.
