Procedure for resetting an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION after changing the oil

Note: The reset procedure may vary slightly depending on your vehicle make and model.

Required equipment:

* OBDII scanner with automatic transmission reset function

Steps:

1. Connect the scanner to the vehicle’s OBDII diagnostic port. The OBDII port is usually located under the steering column or in the center console.
2. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
3. Select your vehicle make and model from the scanner menu.
4. Select the “Transmission” or “Automatic” option.
5. Select the option “Reset automatic transmission learning/adaptation”.
6. Follow the instructions on the scanner. Typically they include the following steps:
* Selecting the type of automatic transmission oil that was used.
* Move the gear lever through all gears.
* Set the gear shift lever to the “Parking” position.
7. Click OK or Reset on the scanner to begin the reset process.
8. Wait for the reset process to complete. This may take a few minutes.
9. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the scanner.
10. Start the engine and check that the gears operate correctly.

Adviсe:

* Make sure that the automatic transmission oil has been changed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Reset the automatic transmission only if necessary. Excessive resets can cause shifting problems.
