Removing the gear shift knob from a Kia Sorento automatic transmission
Required tools:
* Phillips screwdriver
Instructions:
1. Move the shift lever to the Park position (P).
2. Lift the shift knob boot. To do this, press the button at the base of the case.
3. Unscrew the two Phillips screws. They are located under the cover.
4. Remove the handle from the gear shift lever. To do this, pull the handle up and disconnect it from the lever.
5. Remove the gear shift knob boot. To do this, pull the cover up and detach it from the frame.
Installing the gear shift knob:
1. Install the shift knob boot. Align the bushings on the boot with the tabs on the frame and press down to secure.
2. Install the gear shift knob. Align the pin on the knob with the hole in the shift lever and push the knob until it locks into place.
3. Tighten the two Phillips screws.
4. Place the shift knob boot over the knob.
5. Press the button at the base of the case to lock it into place.
Note:
*Before removing the shift knob, be sure to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid accidental activation of the gears.
* Be careful when removing the handle as the spring mechanism may cause it to pop out.
