Removing automatic transmission on Land Rover Discovery 3

Required tools:

* Wrench set
* Head set
* Socket wrenches
* Torque wrench
* Jack
* Car stands

Safety:

* Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface and the parking brake is set.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Allow the engine to cool.
* Wear safety glasses and gloves.

Procedure:

1. Prepare the car

* Raise the front of the car using a jack and install stands.
* Remove the front wheels.
* Unscrew the bolts of the front fender liners and remove them.

2. Disconnect electrical connectors

* Locate the electrical connectors connected to the automatic transmission and carefully disconnect them.

3. Disconnect the pipes

* Disconnect all lines connected to the automatic transmission, including coolant lines, vacuum lines and speed sensor wiring.

4. Suspend the engine

* Use a lifting device to suspend the engine.

5. Unscrew the automatic transmission mounting bolts

* Locate the bolts that secure the automatic transmission to the engine. Unscrew them in the order specified in the repair manual for your specific vehicle.

6. Disconnect the driveshaft

* Using a socket wrench, unscrew the bolts securing the propeller shaft to the automatic transmission flange.

7. Disconnect the torque converter

* Insert a screwdriver between the torque converter and the flywheel to disconnect them.

8. Remove the automatic transmission

* Gently pull the automatic transmission backwards to disconnect it from the engine.
* Lower the automatic transmission to the ground.

Installation:

*Reverse the steps to install the new automatic transmission.
* Tighten all bolts and nuts to the specifications in the repair manual.
* Connect all electrical connectors, lines and driveshaft.
* Lower the engine and remove the lifting device.
* Install the front wheels and fender liners.
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
